On September 4, NEU held its 2025 Freshman Orientation Ceremony at Zhixing Plaza on the South Lake Campus. Attendees included Zhang Qi, Commander of the Military Training Corps; Guo Hai, Secretary of the University Party Committee; and President Feng Xiating. Over 12,000 incoming undergraduate, graduate, and international students participated in the ceremony. Vice President Wang Qiang presided over the ceremony.
Feng Xiating extended a warm welcome to the Class of 2025 on behalf of NEU and expressed sincere gratitude to the faculty and parents who have nurtured the students' growth. Under the theme "In the Name of NEU: Seeking Truth, Pursuing Excellence, Embracing Innovation, and Achieving Excellence," he encouraged the students to uphold the spirit of NEU's motto and its cultural ethos, carry forward the revolutionary heritage, scale new heights in scientific research, build a better NEU, and write magnificent chapters in their lives.
Professor He Benguo from the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Mining and Equipment for Deep Metal Ore Deposits, representing the faculty, encouraged all incoming freshmen with the message that "stand tall and firm, persevere with unwavering dedication, and embrace innovation with courage." Zhang Kesheng, a 2019 doctoral student majoring in Control Theory and Control Engineering from the College of Information Science and Engineering, delivered a speech on behalf of the students. Wang Jiayao, a 2025 undergraduate student majoring in Energy and Power Engineering from the School of Metallurgy, spoke as a representative of the incoming freshmen.
At the ceremony, Guo Hai and Feng Xiating pinned school badges on representatives of the incoming class. The event concluded successfully as the entire audience of faculty and students sang the school anthem with great enthusiasm.
